The young man was gleaming, sweat coursing down his bare mahogany torso. His Pittsburgh Pirates cap was cocked at a jaunty angle and his hightop sneakers beat a tattoo on the bar. Lovely young women danced on the bar to his right and left, and folks lined up between the dancing feet to buy each other frou-frou shots before rejoining the pulsating mass on the dance floor. Sure, Novak's is a lesbian bar: The focus definitely is on ladies who love ladies. But sexy is as sexy does.

Nowak's, on Manchester, in the Grove, comes to mind. I'm male and straight, so don't pretend to be the best informed, but it is the only lesbian bar I know. It is friendly to all and I think that applies to most gay bars in the St. Louis area , so a mix of gay, trans, straight.
This old girl, which has been comfortably ensconced in the Manchester strip in the Grove for more than twenty years, is about as friendly as a place can be, even if it's got a cage hanging in the back of the room. That's for dancing, by the way, which is what you come to Attitudes to do — that, and drink. Here, it doesn't matter if you're young or old, straight or gay, a drag king or queen or someone who just likes sparkly shoes. Even on weeknights, the place is jumping, one of the best parties in town.
Local musician Kristen Goodman. Lesbian bars have been disappearing across the U. Kristen Goodman: When I first moved to St. I started hanging out in the Grove — back then it was called the Manchester Strip — and it was great to finally find my people. It was super important for me to have that.
